We know that the critical element distinguishing a good safari from an unforgettable one is, without a doubt, the tour guide. The lodging, vehicle and food are also critical, but if the guide is not personable, passionate and extremely knowledgeable about their surroundings, the journey loses its magic.

HM Safaris driver guides boast a minimum of 13 years’ experience with most possessing 15 years or more - which is several years above the industry average.

Experience and knowledge aren’t the only criteria for becoming an HM Safari guide. Each and every guide is hand selected by one of HM Safaris driver guides. We seek out quality guides who are patient, caring, kind, calm and flexible. All new guides are initially accompanied by one of our senior driver guides on a few safaris to ensure they meet his high standards. Because they have also made their living as driver guides, the senior guides know what challenges new guides might come up against and are in regular communication with them to ensure they are happy and challenged in their jobs.
All of our staff are committed to the Tanzanian people and community and have created a job environment that encourages and stimulates the driver guides. In turn, the driver guides take great pride in their work with HM Safaris and view their work with us a career choice and not just a job that pays the bills.

The safari guides are with you throughout the entire safari and get to know you personally. They’ll soon figure out what your favorite animals are, which scenery interests you most, how much safari driving you want and at what pace. There are no constraints and you’re guaranteed not to end up with a guide who simply flies through the safari in an attempt to cram everything in. We leave those safari guides for the other companies!

It's not uncommon for our guests to stay in touch with us long after they've left Africa. Many of them have become 'regulars' and pay us more than one visit.
